Man + Woman = Equality in a Relationship?

My Best Friend is in this relationship...a good one, with the man that she has loved since High School. She is going to kill me for posting this on here, should she ever read this, but I know her, she will get over it :) Anyways~ A little background here. She used to work full time and take care of her son with the help of her Satanic Mother. Needless to say, she had it all worked out and handled everything awesomely. Her and her High School sweety got back together and she quit her job and took the most important job she would ever have in her life, a full time Mom to not only her Son, but to his daughter who is the same age as her Son. She cooks, she cleans, she disciplines...she does everything. Makes his lunches...etc.

When he is home he rarely does anything. Plays with the kids and stuff, but when it comes to helping her out, well...it just doesn't happen. So my question is...when did it become okay for a guy to think that just because a woman does not have a "conventional" job, that it is completely equal for him to just sit on his ass when he gets home? She may not be racking in the dough like he is, but she sure as hell is working all day long.

Am I wrong to think that when he gets home and has the time he needs to unwind that he should in turn work WITH the woman in taking care of the kids and say chores and what not? I don't think I am crazy. Because, in a conventional job you get those breaks...IE. lunch and two 15 minute breaks, but when you are taking care of two 3 year olds...breaks don't exist.

Some men REALLY just don't get it. It is like the line in, 'The Break Up' that Jennifer Aniston's character says, "I want you to WANT to do the dishes."

  1. No, you're not wrong. Raising kids takes two parents, when they're available. If he's home and around the house he should be helping out, not letting her do everything.

I'd be laying down the law for that man. I've got a PhD in Arguing My Ass Off, so I don't let shit get out of hand for long. It sounds to me like your friend needs to take a crash course in Taking A Stand. And I mean that in the nicest way possible, not in a mean way. She needs to tell him how it's going to be.

  2. Okay the best friend here.... I totally understand what your saying, and I have been taking a stand and he was been helping out thank god.. He has an extreamly hard job which can make him work 16+ at times which makes it even harder on things. And he doesn't get a lunch break or 2 10 min breaks.... it's a straight 8 or a stright 16. So i also need to take that into consideration. But he did read the blog and and an issue with it but i think in the end realized it was true eventhough he'd never addmit it. So thank you Kindle Lynn cuz you really did help out in the end of the madness!! Love you!!
